Huanggang Port opening of great significance: CE

Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday said the opening of the redeveloped Huanggang Port carries significant meaning, as it reflects the implementation of national planning, puts institutional innovation into practice and promotes cross-boundary flows. The revamped port will officially open and begin 24-hour clearance services for passengers and passenger vehicles at 6.30am on Monday. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the port, Lee said the checkpoint would be more convenient and efficient. He added that the project was a significant milestone in the connectivity of the Greater Bay Area. “The Hong Kong SAR released its first five-year plan last month, proactively aligning with the national 15th Five-Year Plan to better integrate into and serve national development,” he said. “It calls for facilitating the cross-border movement of people and enhancing the efficiency of border clearance. “The opening of the redeveloped Huanggang Port represents a concrete step for Hong Kong to align with national development strategies and deeply participate in the development of the Greater Bay Area.” Lee noted that the new “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” model at the Huanggang Port would enhance boundary clearance efficiency and improve travellers’ experience.
